I am Jacqueline Gogo a graduate of MSc. Statistics at the University of Embu in 2021 class. I took twelve units ideally in Mathematical statistics major. With a two-year study, I learnt not only knowledge obtained in class but also the way of independently thinking to resolve real-life challenges. At the beginning of my study, I set myself a goal of completing my research project in time. Therefore, I decided to develop a positive motive of attending and participating in conferences and workshops. These included;
1.    A two-day workshop on “Aligning yourself to the publishing process” on 23rd to 24th July 2020 at Elsevier.
2.    A four-day workshop on “Introduction to statistical genetics: Theory and practice” on 22nd to 26th February 2021 at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya.
3.    The first conference of the School of Pure and Applied Science at the University of Embu, Kenya.
4.    6th postgraduate students workshop on publishing organized by the board of postgraduate studies at the University of Embu on 27th May 2021.
5.    Data analysis workshop using R software organized by the board of postgraduate studies at the University of Embu on 27th to 29th July 2021.
From the above occasions, just but a few, I gained sufficient knowledge that immensely assisted me to tackle my research project under the guidance of my mentors. I can honestly say that it was one of the best decisions that I made. It prompted me to make significant progress in research and networking. The research academic atmosphere in statistics is strong and I have been greatly impacted in terms of knowledge and working ability.
During my two-year study, I got a chance to involve myself in voluntary duties such as invigilation of end semesters examinations for certificate, diploma and bachelor degree courses. This was a nice experience networking with teaching staff personnel. I am currently working as a part-time teaching staff at the University of Embu.
